Core Tip: Coles has issued an urgent recall of its baby spinach packets after the bacteria salmonella was detected during routine testing.
Coles has issued an urgent recall of its baby spinach packets after the bacteria salmonella was detected during routine testing. The supermarket giant has recalled its house-brand baby spinach packets in the 60g, 120g and 280g sizes with use by dates between April 13 and 14.

The product has been on sale since April 4 at supermarkets across Queensland, ACT and NSW (excluding Coles stores in Lavington, Deniliquin and Albury).

The supermarket giant said quality testing by suppliers identified the presence of Salmonella in the 120g baby spinach product. "As a precaution, Coles is recalling all three Baby Spinach products sourced from this supplier (including the 60g and 280g pack sizes)," the company said in a statement. "The Coles Baby Spinach products with use by dates other than 13 and 14 Apr 22 are not included in this recall."

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is urging consumers to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. If consumed, food products contaminated with Salmonella may cause severe gastroenteritis.

"Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice."

The affected products are:

Coles Baby Spinach 60g - use by 13 April 22
Coles Baby Spinach 120g - use by 13, 14 April 22
Coles Baby Spinach 280g - use by 13, 14 April 22
