- Provisional production data from Defra showed that 589,900 tonnes of liquid milk were produced in December, approximately 400 tonnes (0.1%) more than December last year.
- Cumulatively, liquid milk production for the 12 months ending December 2011 was 1.8% (126,400 tonnes) higher compared with the same period ending December 2010 at 7,067 thousand tonnes.
- Butter production was up by 1,500 tonnes (15.6%) in December compared with the previous year at 11,200 tonnes whilst production for the 12 months ending December 2011 was up by just under 8,200 tonnes (6.8%) compared with the same period last year.
- Cheese production in December 2011 stood at 30,510 tonnes, 2,200 tonnes (7.6%) higher than the previous year. On a cumulative basis, Cheese production for the 12 months ending December 2011 reached 386,270 tonnes, up 3.5% (13,100 tonnes) on the previous 12 month period.
