Core Tip: Dr. Oetker, a German firm that produces frozen pizza, desserts and dry baking mixes, plans to invest C$113m ($109.74m) in a project to build a frozen pizza manufacturing facility.
The facility will source ingredients from flour, cheese, tomato sauce and meat toppings from Ontario's farmers and food processors and produce 50 million frozen pizzas per year for the Canadian and US markets.

Dr. Oetker Canada executive vice president Christian F von Twickel said that Canada is an excellent market for Dr. Oetker.

"The London facility will produce our Ristorante and Casa di Mama pizzas, as well as our newest product - Panebello pizza," he added.

According to the company, the new facility will significantly lower its carbon footprint by cutting down overseas shipments of 75,000 pizzas per day.

The project, which also involves the construction of a warehouse, distribution center, is expected to create 120 permanent jobs. The economic impact of the project on southern Ontario is expected to be nearly $14.4m during the project and $25.9m annually after completion of the project.

The Government of Canada has committed to invest C$12m ($11.65m) in the project.
