Sports nutrition beverages, fruit juices, fruit and vegetable drinks
Meanwhile, applications work is progressing well with potential customers, who have been testing Clarisoy samples for more than a year, marketing and customer development manager ADM North America Oilseeds Courtney B. Kingery told NutraIngredients-USA.
“Now that the first commercial Clarisoy plant has been completed, we expect development timelines to accelerate.”
Global interest
Asked what type of companies have expressed the most interest, she said: “We are seeing strong interest from beverage manufacturers incorporating Clarisoy 100 into sport nutrition beverages, fruit juices and even fruit and vegetable blends.
“They are impressed by the clarity, stability and bland taste of Clarisoy 100 in low pH beverage applications.
“Beverage manufactures from top-tier multinational companies to niche regional fruit juice companies recognize the potential appeal of Clarisoy and the benefits of working with ADM.
“For many top-tier manufacturers, having a reliable and secure protein supply from a trusted global partner is extremely important. For regional or niche brands, ADM’s world-class beverage formulators are an important resource.”
Strong interest from the US, Central America, South America and Europe
As to where the interest is coming from, she added: “In addition to US companies, ADM is seeing strong interest from Central American, South American and European beverage manufacturers.”
A new variant of the protein will be unveiled at the IFT show in Las Vegas next month, she added:
“Clarisoy 100 was the first product to launch in the Clarisoy line. This summer at the Institute of Food Technology Annual Meeting & Food Expo, ADM will launch the first extension to the Clarisoy line.”

For drinks with a pH of less than 4, Clarisoy 100 is heat-stable, 100% soluble and transparent, with no off flavors or odors and no ‘beany’ taste sometimes associated with soy, making it ideal for sports nutrition beverages, fruit and fruit-flavored juices, powdered beverage mixes and fortified waters, says ADM.
“Clarisoy is created through a patented process that delivers a highly purified product with a 95% protein concentration on a moisture-free basis.”
The 20-year license agreement with Burcon gives ADM exclusive rights to sell Clarisoy across all markets and in all potential product applications.
Under the deal, ADM will pay Burcon a quarterly percentage of net revenues as royalties.
ADM, which struck a global licensing deal with Burcon to produce, distribute and sell Clarisoy last March, will be able to supply commercial quantities from June after building a dedicated production plant for the novel ingredient at its soy protein facility in Decatur, Illinois.
