Nigeria opens new rice processing facility FBR Staff Writer

Core Tip: Nigeria has opened a new rice processing facility in Ikorodu, Lagos State, as a part of its plan to increase domestic food production and ensure food security by 2015.
The facility, which has been built by a team of experts from South Korea, has a capacity to produce 20,000 metric tons of rice per year.

It has 10,000 ton storage facility, and additionally, a 45,000 ton storage capacity for finished rice. The facility is expected to produce between 350,000 and 400,000 bags of rice per annum, reported Vanguardngr.com

Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola said the government is building a sustainable economy around agriculture in Lagos, and is determined to do more, collaborating with the Federal Government and the World Bank.

The state plans to increase its rice production from the present 250 hectares of rice land annually to about 500 hectares, Fashola added.
