Core Tip: Mexican police were hunting for culprits following the latest attack on PepsiCo's Mexican subsidiary Sabritas last Thursday, with a powerful drugs cartel believed to be behind a series of attacks on the firm's warehouse and trucks that began the previous

Reuters reported last Friday that a truck carrying Sabritas potato chips and snacks was set alight on Thursday evening near Morelia, the capital of the Western state of Michoacan, after it was stopped by three men with assualt rifles.

This incident followed the firebombing of five Sabritas warehouses and around 30 company trucks last weekend, with PepsiCo said to be the first multinational company subject to attacks; authorities in Guanajuato are said to have arrested suspects linked to the 'Knights Templar' cartel.

Following the attacks, banners in Morelia and other Michoacan towns claimed that the cult was responsible for the Sabritas attacks, and accused PepsiCo's subsidiary of letting government agents pose as delivery men for surveillance purposes.

The signs accused Sabritas of letting government agents pose as delivery men to use the company's trucks for surveillance and threatened other firms that help the police.
