Core Tip: Panama has a projected increase of 30 per cent this year for its exports of shrimp to Europe and America.
Shrimp farmers in the Panamanian provinces of Veraguas, Los Santos, Herrera, and Cocle are ready to harvest and start shrimp to send to markets in Europe and America.

During the first quarter of this year, exports of shrimp from the province of Cocle increased and in April the area exported about 500,000 pounds, generating sales of about $3,148,000.

According to Gustavo Ortega, regional director of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Cocle, an increase of 14 per cent in exports was seen when compared to the same period in 2011, when it sent about 333,000 pounds of shrimp to Europe and America.

The shrimp industry, authorities and exporters, project a 30 per cent increase in exports this year.
