Yesterday, authorities from Panama and the People's Republic of China signed a phytosanitary requirements protocol to export fresh pineapples to China.

The protocol was signed in the framework of the official visit to Panama by the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping.

The agreement to export pineapples was based on Chinese phytosanitary laws, and safety and health regulations. The protocol states that the orchards, packers, companies and / or quarantine facilities that will participate in these exports must be registered with the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) and must be evaluated and approved by the Chinese Customs General Administration.
