Core Tip: Closure Systems International has launched a closure that they claim delivers improved packaging cost and sustainability, superior CO2 performance, and enhanced impact resistance.
The Xtra-Lok mini ‘S’ 28mm closure for short-height carbonated soft drink bottles includes superior CO2 retention and secure tamper evidence.

CSI said the first mini S closure profile is being launched in Latin America and the platform will roll to other regions in the coming months.

The closure is engineered to work for packages sizes ranging from 250ml up to three liters in volume.

It also uses the firm’s patented bead behind the wing tamper band for package security.

Closure benefits

Clint Rush, global marketing manager at Closure Systems International told FoodProductionDaily.com customers always desire more for less and it delivers improved performance at a lower cost.

CSI test results show improved performance on all of the cited criteria compared to our first generation design and versus competitive first generation short-height closures on select criteria.

“CSI’s mission is to help customer’s maximize their profits by enhancing the marketability of their brands and by reducing their total cost of operations.  Xtra-Lok mini S does just that
.

Closure Systems International’s new Xtra-Lok mini ‘S’ 28mm closure for the short-height carbonated soft drink bottle finish features a best-in-class lightweight design that delivers  improved packaging cost and sustainability, superior CO2
 performance, and enhanced impact resistance.

“CSI is focused on these areas because they address customer needs
.”

It incorporates CSI's patented bead behind the wing tamper band and fits sizes from 250ml up to three liters in volume.

First generation upgrade

The firm said material savings were more than 10% compared to the first generation short-height closure design.

"Compared to the first generation short-height closure design, the total material savings in the improved mini S design is over 10%,”
 explained Rush.

"Virtually all areas of the closure were very carefully evaluated, and select areas were re-engineered to yield substantial material reductions - with no sacrifice in performance. On a typical truckload order, the material savings will amount to over 4000 pounds of plastic.

“This translates to a reduced carbon footprint and significantly less plastic in the packaging. On the volume scale that bottling customers use annually, this second generation closure delivers impressive environmental and economic sustainability improvements.”
