The product was packaged in containers bearing the following names: 'Mexicali Queso Fresco Medicano,' 'Mexican Style Fresh Cheese' and 'Acatlan Queso Fresco, Fresh Cheese.'
A routine sample of the cheese was taken by the Division of Milk Control and Dairy Services on June 20. The department's food laboratory detected a preliminary positive test result for Listeria on June 25, after which the company initiated a voluntary recall. The department confirmed those test results on Friday, June 29.
No illnesses have been reported. The department will take additional samples to determine whether or not the product is now free of pathogens.
