Global Garlic of Miami, Florida is recalling 227 units of Queso Fresco/Whole Milk cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The cheese was distributed through retail stores in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami areas in Florida, and in Fairdale, Kentucky. It was sold in a 16 ounce plastic bag. The cheese is “DE MI PAIS” brand with an expiration date of September 19, 2017.

If you purchased it, do not eat it. Throw the cheese away in a double bagged or sealed package in a secure garbage can, or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill it. Wash your hands after handling this product.

If you ate any of this recalled cheese, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms can be like the flu, or they can include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If you do feel sick, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled product.
