Core Tip: Dole Fresh Vegetables, a subsidiary of Dole Food, is recalling 2,598 cases of bagged salad in the US, as the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall was initiated after a sample of Dole Hearts of Romaine salad yielded a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes in a random sample test conducted by the FDA.

The product being recalled is Dole Hearts of Romaine coded 0540N165112A or B, with use-by date of 26 June and UPC 7143000956. The salads were distributed in nine US states - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

No illnesses have been reported in association with the recall and no other salads are included in the recall.

According to the company, the product is 3 days past its use-by date and it is highly unlikely that any product is still available at retail. However, the company has asked retailers to check their inventories and store shelves to ensure that the product is not available for purchase.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product have been advised not to consume it, but rather discard it.

This recall comes few days after Dole Food recalled 1,077 cases of bagged salads across six states in the US due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can lead to foodborne illness known as Listeriosis. The symptoms of an infection may include fever, muscle aches and gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea or diarrhea.
