Through 2011, Dean said it had reduced greenhouse gases by 8.4%, water use by 10.5% and solid waste by 21%.
The company also said it plans to set new goals for zero-waste plants, packaging and sustainable supply by the end of 2013.
“We set aggressive sustainability goals for our business in 2008, and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far,” said Gregg Tanner, president of the company’s Fresh Dairy Direct business unit and chief supply chain officer for Dean. “We are committed to speaking openly and transparently about our progress and shortfalls, and then realigning on new, expanded, and more accurate and achievable goals.”
