FSA appoints chief executive

Core Tip: The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has appointed Catherine Brown as its new chief executive.


The
UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has appointed Catherine Brown as its new chief executive.

Brown will take up the role in October and replaces Tim Smith who has held the position since March 2008.

Brown is currently chief executive of the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) and has worked as a managing director at BUPA and for the NHS and Unilever.

Jeff Rooker, chair of the Food Standards Agency, said: “Catherine's wide-ranging experience and background, in both the private and public sectors, complement our core principles and will be valuable to the FSA as we move forward.”

Brown added she was looking forward to the role: “It is an organisation firmly committed to protecting the interests of consumers, and one which places science and evidence at the heart of what it does.”
