The International Blueberry Festival is to kick off in Dalian, a coastal city of northeast China's Liaoning province on July 22.
As one of the venues of the festival, the blueberry valley park at Dalian Golden Pebble Beach has attracted a large number of tourists from home and abroad. Over 400 tourists visit the park every weekend during late June to early July.
Established in 2004, the park has a planting area of 13.3 hectares, amounting to an output of 40,000 to 50,000 kilograms of blueberries so far. The park has cooperated with the Blueberry Association in Washington State, the United States, introducing over 50,000 blueberries of 13 varieties. It has become one of the ten tourism and leisure farms in the city.
During the festival, the park will hold a series of blueberry-themed meetings to promote the blueberry industry in Dalian. Chairman of the US Highbush Blueberry Council and blueberry experts from Taiwan will be invited to the meetings.Dalian currently has a total blueberry area of 2666.7 hectares.
