Increased demand for guar gum, especially from the oil and gas industry, has led to price increases. Overall demand for guar gum over the past two years rose to 480,000 tonnes per year from 250,000 tonnes per year, according to White Marsh-based TIC Gums.
Standard use is 0.1% to 3% to build viscosity and/or mouthfeel. GR 8700 also works in film-type applications such as breath, energy and vitamin strips.
