Argentina has filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over US restrictions on fresh lemons from the northwestern region of Argentina.

Argentina noted that the prohibition of lemon imports over the last 11 years lacks scientific justification and violates trade rules.

This move comes after the US and Japan filed complaints against Argentina at the WTO, alleging the country's protectionist import licensing rules.

Following this, Argentina noted that it would complain over beef and lemon restrictions imposed by the US. On August 30 2012, it filed a complaint about beef.

As a part of WTO dispute proceedings, the governments must hold talks for at least two months in order to resolve the matter.
