Vion Food Group has announced that Dirk Kloosterboer will be taking over the responsibilities as chief executive and chairman following the departure of Uwe Tillmann at the Dutch owned meat processor.

Kloosterboer has been vice-chairman of the executive board since January 1 2010 and will now take charge of a business-wide restructuring which includes the planned closure of its Hall’s site at Broxburn, West Lothian.

The closure will see more than 1,700 redundancies at the Scottish pig factory.

“Every confidence”

A statement on the firm’s website said: “The Supervisory Board has every confidence that this adjustment to the management will ensure the successful implementation of Vion’s strategic vision.”

Alongside Kloosterboer, the executive board consists of Peter Beckers and Ton Vernaus, who will work together to implement the strategic vision.

The company employed Tillmann since 2003, when he joined the executive board of bestmeat company B.V. He had been the CEO and chairman of the executive board since January 1 2010.

Tillmann stepped down last Monday with immediate effect.
