Core Tip: 3M Food Safety has received AOAC-PTM Certification for its Molecular Detection Assay Listeria for Environmental Testing.
3M Food Safety has received AOAC-PTM Certification for its Molecular Detection Assay Listeria for Environmental Testing.

The validation from the AOAC Research Institute’s Performance Tested Methods program confirms the assay's ability to monitor the facilities of food processors.

The system uses isothermal DNA amplification and bioluminescence detection and is offered for testing food matrices including produce, meat, seafood, poultry and dairy.

Use of this assay for food evaluation is in process as a matrix extension to the current AOAC-PTM.

For the study, artificially contaminated surfaces were evaluated using the system as compared to the appropriate US Food and Drug Administration or US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service reference method.

Niki Montgomery, global marketing manager with 3M Food Safety, said: “Recent outbreaks and recalls due to possible Listeria contamination further highlight the importance of using an AOAC-PTM certified method to detect foodborne pathogens."
