Young butchers from across Europe travelled to the Netherlands recently to compete for a prestigious title.
The International Young Butcher Competition, organised by the International Butchers’ Confederation and held in Utrecht, is regarded as the premier competition in Europe for young butchers aged between 18 and 23.
Held over two days, butchers from Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the UK, competed in six disciplines, including breaking down and trimming a hip of beef, presentation of regional and speciality dishes and the preparation and display of barbecue products.
The overall title was taken by the Netherland’s Marco van der Haut, with Switzerland’s Marco Muller finishing as runner up.
