FAST food restaurant staff teamed up with a group of volunteers to tackle littering.

A team from McDonald’s in Ryhall Road, Stamford, were joined by Blackstones Junior Football Club, second Stamford Scouts, Brownies, Cubs, Beavers and residents on Saturday to clear up rubbish on the Recreation Ground.

The litter pick was part of the fast food giant’s Love Where You Live campaign and the volunteers filled a number of bags with rubbish on the day.

McDonald’s franchise owner Matt Jarrett has worked to clear rubbish across the Mercury area and often offers the services of his green litter van to events such as the Deeping Show and the Deepings Raft Race, collecting litter on the day.

He said: “Love Where You Live is an effective way of making a positive difference to the area.

“It was inspiring to see members of the community join forces to take action on litter that damages our environment.

“Unfortunately there is still a significant proportion of people who think it’s acceptable to drop litter. It’s everyone’s responsibility and through these events we wanted to generate awareness of the issue, educate those people on how to dispose of rubbish properly and encourage them to be more responsible.

“I’d like to thank my staff and all the volunteer groups involved for their hard work and setting a good example of what can be achieved if people pull together.

“It’s vital that we all do our bit to tackle the issue. Everyone from local businesses like mine to the residents of Stamford should make a commitment to helping protect the local environment.”
