Italy-based Tenuta Santa Maria alla Pieve estate owners Gaetano Bertani together with sons Giovanni and Guglielmo have formed a new company - Agricola Gaetano Bertani e Figli.
The new firm aims to produce echelon wines and expand its 54 acre Tenuta Santa Maria estate's range of wines. To celebrate the formation of the company, the Bertani family will release four wines in fall 2012.
Agricola Gaetano Bertani e Figli was formed as a result of December 2011 sale of Cantine Bertani to Tenimenti Angelini, which resulted in division of Bertani assets on 15 September 2012.
Under the division, Gaetano Bertani e Figli retains 73 acres of vineyards in the Valpolicella Classico zone along with the family's 18th century neoclassical Villa Mosconi Bertani outside Verona, Italy.
Bertani said this move frees them to focus on high-quality wines, in keeping with its conviction that the global marketplace is ready to accept even higher-quality benchmarks from the Veneto.
The estate's wines are presently imported by California's Grapes on the Go in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and California. From fall 2012, the estate will roll out its products to Florida, Massachusetts, Vermont, Texas and Washington DC.
