Woolworths is testing out new food service concepts including street foods fresh from the grill and hot meals.

In a new move, the supermarket has established a café and a Metro formatted store at its headquarters in Bella Vista, Sydney, using its own employees as taste testers.

According to a Woolworths category manager who revealed the news online late last week, the two stores will include a sushi kiosk, mini bakery and numerous rotating “food trends” such as tacos, burritos, Asian style noodle bowls, pizza and monster sub rolls. The Metro store follows the same format as its Metro stores which have been operating in city centres since late 2015. These stores have a strong focus on convince products with barista style coffee available and healthy grab-and-go breakfast, lunch and snack foods sold.

Both the café and Metro store are the start of a ‘Food Quarter’ located within Woolworths HQ that will later include development facilities, a cooking school and a training facility.

Woolworths’ private label ingredients will be heavily used and the menus are developed by Woolworths’ own chefs.
