The old Grand Buffet lot in downtown Yakima will soon have a new tenant.
McDonalds is planning to build a store at the intersection of First Street and Yakima Avenue. The property owner tells us it took several months to negotiate with McDonalds. She wanted the store to match the other buildings in the downtown area.
Most of the people we talked with are supportive of the new store.
"I think it's a great idea. Fast food restaurant downtown would be nice," says Yadira Navarro who lives in Yakima.
"It would make it more convenient, instead of having to travel all the way outside of downtown... For people who live closer to downtown," said Ashley Whitefoot, a resident of Yakima.
McDonalds still has to draw up plans for the store and get it approved by the city. The property owner says they'll likely start work on the site next spring.
