About 12 European food and beverage manufacturers and retailers have made a commitment to harmonize nutrition labelling and information across all markets in the European Union (EU).
As a part of this initiative, the companies plan to voluntarily keep the calorie information on the front of the pack. This move is aimed at helping consumers to have access to consistent, meaningful nutritional information on products.
The companies that have made the commitment include: Coca-Cola, Danone, Ferrero, General Mills, Kellogg's, Mondelez, Mars, Metro, Nestlé, Orangina-Schweppes, Pepsico, and Unilever.
The 12 companies plan to implement these changes by the end of 2014. This initiative will be an addition to the changes required by the new EU regulation on food labelling.
The regulation provides a legal framework for voluntary Guideline Daily Amount (GDA) labelling, along with some changes to the scheme introduced six years ago.
