The Australian Government has called for nominations for the Wheat Industry Advisory Taskforce.
The taskforce is part of Labor’s Wheat Export Marketing Amendment Act, passed by the Parliament last month, which will see Australia’s wheat exports become fully deregulated.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, said the taskforce will provide recommendations to the government and wheat industry on key issues, including export standards and the reporting of up country stocks information.
“The establishment of this taskforce reflects the Government’s view that industry representatives should drive industry good functions,” Minister Ludwig said.
“As well as examining export standards and reporting mechanisms, the taskforce will look at current supply chain arrangements and consider how to best to use surplus funds from the Wheat Export Charge.
“This is a great opportunity to develop an independent and experienced taskforce with the skills to move a deregulated wheat export industry forward.”
A selection committee comprised of grower, trader and port terminal operator sector representatives and an independent chair will assess nominations and recommend members for the taskforce.
The committee will be chaired by Mr Bob Granger who has extensive experience on a number of board selection committees.
