Volunteers are making it a happier Christmas for Southern California's homeless and needy.
Volunteers doled out food bags and free meals of ham, mashed potatoes and pie Tuesday to thousands of people at The Midnight Mission in Los Angeles. Hundreds of children also got to choose gifts from a "Santa's Village" room stacked with toys.
Many other groups also are serving free meals.
In Hollywood, Dane Cook, Paul Rodriguez and other comedians will serve free meals, hand out toys and perform at the Laugh Factory. Club owner Jamie Masada tells City News Service that spending the holidays alone is no laughing matter, especially in today's economy.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez and Sheriff Lee Baca celebrated Christmas Mass with inmates at the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail.
