Long Island Wine
Richard Olsen-Harbich of Bedell Cellars on the East End told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs it was an honor to learn his 2009 Merlot will be served at at the inauguration lunch in the Capitol on January 21.

“Yeah it’s kind of cool to think that not only the President and the First Lady, but the Supreme Court and all the living Presidents are gonna be tasting the wine that I made. So I’m pretty blown away by it,” he said.

It’s the first time a New York wine has ever been served at a Presidential inauguration and all out in Long Island’s wine country are beaming with pride.

“It’s fantastic. Really excited about it,” Olsen-Harbich said. “We’re going to keep doing what we’re doing. I think the wines just keep getting better every year.”

As for the wine itself…

“It’s a real classic Long Island Merlot and I think it pairs really well with food,” he said.
