Sprouters Northwest is voluntarily recalling all varieties of its sprouts products as they are found to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

The products subject to recall include 3-Bean Munchie, Alfalfa, Bean, Broccoli, Brocco Sandwich sprouts, Clover, Deli, Spicy; Wheatgrass and/or Pea Shoots, which were sold under the Sprouters Northwest and LifeForce brands and packed in plastic clamshell containers, plastic cups, plastic trays in 3oz., 4 oz., 5oz., and in plastic 1lb. 2lb, or 5lb. bags with best by dates all and up to 2/17/2013.

These products were distributed until 30 January 2013 in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and British Columbia, Canada through retail stores and foodservice distribution centers.

The problem was identified following an investigatation of finished product samples at retail locations by the Washington State Department of Agriculture.

Consumers have been requested not to consume the product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumption of products containing Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
