Core Tip: Brazil and Russia have signed an agreement that allows trade in products, mainly soybeans, between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Defense Secretary Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), Ernie Marques, and the Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation, Sergey Dankvert.

The agreement establishes measures to facilitate the issuance of phytosanitary certificates in grains, following the International Standard for Handling Plant Products (ISPM 12).

The document was presented to the Russian delegation during a meeting of the Brazil-Russia Agricultural Committee, held in Brasilia on 18 and 19 February.

The director of the Department of Plant Protection, Cosan Coutinho, estimates that the agreement gives more security to the parties, since it facilitates trade between the countries.

"Brazil has called for an agreement with Russia that eases the process of export and import, including soybeans for two years," Mr Coutinho said.
