AFFI chooses new leadership

Jeff Varcoe, vice president of food safety and quality for The Schwan Food Company, Marshall, Minnesota, was elected chairman of the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) at its annual meeting and breakfast.

Dave Yanda, president and ceo of Lakeside Foods, Inc., Manitowoc, Wisconsin, was elected vice chairman at the meeting, held in conjunction with AFFI's annual frozen food convention in Anaheim, California. George F. Smith, president and ceo of NORPAC Foods, Inc., Stayton, Oregon, carries on as immediate past chairman.

Seven board members were elected to three-year terms: Michael Allen of The Kellogg Co.; Ricardo Alvarez of Spartan Foods of America, Inc.; Paul Bakus of Nestlé Pizza; Angelo Fallucca of Palermo Villa, Inc.; John Geocaris of Little Lady Foods, Inc.; James Matthews of H.J. Heinz Co.; and Rob McCutcheon of ConAgra Foods, Inc. They join an AFFI Board of Directors comprised of 16 frozen food industry leaders.
