Tyson Foods, Inc. announced March 1 it is closing a chicken processing plant in Springdale. The company cited a changing demand for certain types of specialty products for the closing.

Production from the plant will be moved to other plants in Northwest, Ark. The plant employs approximately 60 and they will be offered positions with other plants in the region, according to the company. The plant has been in operation for more than 15 years and was once served as Tyson’s research and development pilot plant.

In 2007, Tyson Foods opened its $45 million Discovery Center for product research and development. The center is located in Springdale.
