January nonfat dry milk down 7% from 2012

Manufacturers’ stocks of edible nonfat dry milk were 249,444,000 lbs, up 38% from December and up 57% from January 2012. November shipments were 124,421,000 lbs, up 25% from December but down 20% from January 2012.

Output of skim milk powders was 47,980,000 lbs, up 26% from December and up 21% from January 2012.

Total dry whey production was 87,172,000 lbs, down 2% from December and down 9% from January 2012. Production of lactose was 88,105,000 lbs, down slightly from 88,237,000 lbs in December but up 2% from 86,711,000 lbs in January 2012. Whey protein concentrate production was 38,831,000 lbs, up 1% from both December and January 2012. Dry buttermilk outturn was 13,149,000 lbs, up 13% from December and up 4% from January 2012.

Total manufacturers’ stocks of dry whey on Jan. 31 were 61,201,000 lbs, up 8% from December and up 18% from January 2012. Total lactose stocks were 86,867,000 lbs, down 8% from December but up 35% from January 2012. Whey protein concentrate stocks totaled 55,886,000 lbs, up 9% from December and up 33% from January 2012. Dry buttermilk stocks totaled 19,952,000 lbs, up 11% from December and up 9% from January 2012.

Butter production in January 2013 was 185,241,000 lbs, up 7% from December and up 3% from January 2012.

Total cheese production was 932,696,000 lbs, down 2% from December but up 2% from January 2012.

Production of regular hard ice cream in January totaled 58,422,000 lbs, up 20% from December and up 6% from January 2012. Low-fat ice cream production was 27,407,000 lbs, up 17% from December but down 4% from January 2012.
