May production of edible nonfat dry milk was 167,421,000 lbs, up 5% from April but down 13% from May 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Dairy Products report.
Manufacturers’ stocks of edible nonfat dry milk were 226,718,000 lbs, up 9% from April and up 5% from May 2012. May shipments were 124,203,000 lbs, down 30% from April and down 37% from May 2012.
Output of skim milk powders was 54,641,000 lbs, up 38% from April and up 272% from May 2012.
Total dry whey production was 78,048,000 lbs, down 4% from April and down 10% from May 2012.
Production of lactose was 91,761,000 lbs, up 2% from April and up 5% from May 2012. Whey protein concentrate production was 42,807,000 lbs, up 6% from April and up 17% from May 2012. Dry buttermilk outturn was 10,299,000 lbs, down 10% from April but up 16% from May 2012.
Total manufacturers’ stocks of dry whey on May 31 were 64,407,000 lbs, down 6% from April but up 32% from May 2012. Total lactose stocks were 90,775,000 lbs, up 1% from April and up 7% from May 2012. Whey protein concentrate stocks totaled 57,793,000 lbs, up 3% from April and up 11% from May 2012. Dry buttermilk stocks totaled 17,557,000 lbs, up 1% from April but down 10% from May 2012.
Butter production in May 2013 was 166,561,000 lbs, down slightly from 166,937,000 lbs in April but up 2% from 164,133,000 lbs in May 2012.
Total cheese production was 953,907,000 lbs, up 3% from April and up 4% from May 2012.
Production of regular hard ice cream in May was 77,813,000 lbs, up 8% from April and up slightly from 77,726,000 lbs in May 2012. Low-fat ice cream production was 42,239,000 lbs, up 10% from April but down 11% from May 2012.
