Pork has been found in halal chicken sausages sold by one of Britain’s biggest school caterers.
Chartwells withdrew the sausages after tests overseen by Westminster City Council revealed traces of pork.
The caterer provides dinners at 1,500 primary and 500 secondary schools, universities and colleges across Britain. The sausages were on the menu for 4,400 pupils.
The pork was found in tests which also revealed that minced beef supplied to the council showed evidence of lamb and pork DNA.
