The frozen foods firm Albafrost has plans to open a new plant in Albacete, Spain, consequently filling the gap left by the closure of the Findus plant in 2011. The opening, likely to happen in the first semester of 2014, will create about 100 direct and 300 indirect jobs.
The new deep-freezing plant will have a surface of 120,000 m². The project promoters have confirmed that they count with over 4.4 million Euro in funding from Focal.
"The idea is to round up the financial negotiations this month, to begin in June with the procedures for the constitution of the plant, to start processing the certifications needed in February next year and begin the construction work in May 2014," pointed out one of the four partners, Juan Bañón.
For his part, the provincial secretary of the CCOO Traders' Union in Albacete, Francisco de la Rosa, reminded that the province of Albacete produces 30% of the country's onions and some of Europe's best broccoli and expressed his approval for the initiative, which entails one of the most serious business challenges proposed in recent years.
