Sales of Chablis wine in the UK has grown with exports reaching nearly 10 million bottles and generating €43m in 2012, according to Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB), a France-based governing body of Burgundy wines.

Chablis is a French white wine made with Chardonnay. Majority of the wines shipped to the UK include Chablis and Petit Chablis, while others include Chablis Premier Cru or Grand Cru.

BIVB marketing manager Francoise Roure was quoted by Harpers as saying that the Chablis commission of the BIVB is continuously investing in the UK through trade masterclasses and events.

"The UK definitely remains the most important export market for Chablis wines," Roure added.

Japan followed the UK with exports of 2.6 million bottles of Chablis wines that generated around €16m.

Burgundy wines accounted for 20% of all the wines sold in Tokyo in 2012.
