The previously announced merger between Canada-based dairy Agropur Co-operative and Farmers Co-operative Dairy has been completed.
Agropur has more than 3,404 dairy producer owners and processes more than 3.3 billion liters of milk annually at its 28 plants across Canada and the US.
The co-operative also produces a line of products under the brands including Natrel, Québon, OKA, Farmers, Central Dairies, Sealtest, Island Farms, Agropur Grand Cheddar and iögo.
Agropur board of directors chairman Serge Riendeau said that this merger positions both co-operatives in a good position in the dairy industry across Canada.
"It also allows our members to focus their efforts on marketing their milk through a major Canadian cooperative," Riendeau added.
Farmers Co-operative is owned by more than 125 Atlantic Canadian dairy farmers that provide a range of dairy products under its Central Dairies brand.
Farmers Co-operative Dairy board of directors chairman Jeannie van Dyk said: "The new Agropur Cooperative allows us to continue to produce and process our milk locally while benefiting from the advantages of being part of a larger national cooperative."
