US-based refractometers manufacturer MISCO has introduced a new digital handheld Soy Milk Refractometer designed to measure solids and protein content of Soy Milk.

Soy Milk is a non-dairy beverage created using whole soy beans that are water-soaked, ground, cooked and strained or from hydrated full-fat soy flour. This milk is used as an alternative to dairy milk.

The new instrument is designed for food processing companies, restaurants and other organizations that need solids content control to ensure repeatable product quality.

This new meter features a high-definition detector array to image emulsions.

MISCO marketing team Michael Caminer said: "Thanks to the OPTICAL-ENGINE, with its high-definition detector array, measurements made with the MISCO Soy Milk refractometer have a precision comparable to mid-range bench-top laboratory refractometers costing thousands of dollars more, yet it still fits in the palm of your hand."

For sampling, the instrument requires just two drops of soy milk in its stainless-steel sample well.

After filling, users have to switch between the simple two user-friendly interface buttons - one to take readings and the other to step through various menu options - to complete the measurement.

It also features a 24-character LCD display to display readings and an evaporation cover to prevent evaporation and keeps out stray light.

The company claims that this meter will automatically calibrate itself to water.
