Delhaize Group here on Thursday announced the appointment of Maura Abeln Smith as its new executive vice president, general counsel and general secretary, effective immediately.
Smith will also become a member of the Delhaize executive committee and lead the group’s legal and government affairs functions, the retailer said.
Smith, who most recently served as general counsel and EVP for government affairs at PepsiCo, succeeds Michael Waller who is retiring as scheduled. Smith also has served similar roles for International Paper and Owens Corning. She is relocating to Brussels.
"I am very pleased to have Maura join our group and our executive committee," said Pierre-Olivier Beckers, chief executive officer of Delhaize Group. “She brings deep legal and governmental affairs experience, a global perspective, and a wealth of knowledge in business transformation to our group."
