The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in April was $7.52 per bu, down 26c from $7.78 in March but up 41c from $7.11 in April 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices Report.
The average price paid for winter wheat in April was $7.31 per bu, down 31c from $7.62 in March but up 84c from $6.47 in April 2012. The average price paid for durum was $7.76 per bu, down 36c from $8.12 in March and down $1.46 from $9.22 in April 2012. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $7.80 per bu, down 15c from $7.95 in March and down 16c from $7.96 in April 2012.
The average price paid for all rice was $15.30 a cwt, up 30c from $15 in March and up 90c from $14.40 in April 2012.
The April index of prices received by farmers for food grains was 243 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, down 2% from 248 in March but up 6% from 229 in April 2012.
The April index of feed grains was 288, down 6% from 306 in March but up 6% from 273 in April 2012. The average price paid to farmers for corn was $6.67 per bu, down 46c from $7.13 in March but up 33c from $6.34 in April 2012. Farmers received an average of $11.40 a cwt for grain sorghum in April, down 80c from $12.20 in March but up 80c from $10.60 in April 2012. The average price paid for oats in April was $4.20 a bu, up 1c from March and up 36c from $3.84 in April 2012.
The index of April prices received for oilseeds was 247, down 3% from 254 in March but unchanged from April 2012. Farmers received an average of $14.20 a bu for soybeans in April, down 40c from $14.60 in March but up 40c from $13.80 in April 2012.
The April index for dairy products was 148, up 1% from 146 in March and up 15% from 129 in April 2012. The average price paid for all milk in April was $19.30 a cwt, up 20c from $19.10 in March and up $2.50 from $16.80 in April 2012.
The April poultry and egg index was 188, down 5% from 197 in March but up 18% from 157 in April 2012. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs in April was 88c a dozen, down 27c from $1.15 in March but up 1c from April 2012.
