Japanese ingredients company Ajinomoto has announced that its overseas sales company, Ajinomoto Afrique De L’ouest, has commenced full-scale operation of a repacking plant for umami seasoning AJI-NO-MOTO in the Yopougon industrial area of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
In January 2012, Ajinomoto established Ajinomoto Afrique De L'ouest and started sales of AJI-NO-MOTO in the domestic market. Initially, it sold the ingredient as an imported finished product from West African Seasoning (WASCO) of Nigeria.
The new repacking plant has allowed the company to locally package bulk AJI-NO-MOTO imported from Ajinomoto do Brasil Indústria e Comércio to cater to the local consumer needs.
With the addition of the repacking plant, the company plans to further expand its business in the Sub-Saharan region, centered on West Africa, by providing an increasing number of products and services to its African customers.
Ajinomoto is targeting sales of approximately JPY2.5bn ($24.5m) in 2016.
Ajinomoto is manufacturer of seasonings, processed foods, beverages, amino acids, pharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals.
