Ajinomoto Sales Thailand (AST), a consolidated subsidiary of Ajinomoto, has started full-scale operation of its second plant for Birdy canned (iced) coffee production with an investment of JPY4.5bn ($45m) in July 2013.

The funds were used for building expansion, production line expansion, extension of coffee bean warehouse, blend ingredient warehouse and warehouse for finished products and packaging materials, etc.

Located in Nongkhae Industrial Estate, Saraburi, Thailand, the new plant has doubled the current production capacity to 750 million cans per year and will enable the company to meet the growing demand in the future.

With an investment in new production facilities in 2008, the factory began integrated production from roasting and extraction to blending and filling, using coffee beans grown in Thailand.

Launched in 1993, Birdy is a iced coffee line available in various flavors, including Robusta, Rich & Smooth, Pure Black, Classic and Milky Coffee.
