With the UK's National Barbecue Week upon us, EHL Ingredients, a leading importer, blender and packer of natural food ingredients, has reported a 30% increase in sales of BBQ seasoning ingredients. BBQ-themed events are set to take place across the country from 27th May to 2nd June.
The company has witnessed a surge in orders for nutmeg, chilli, pepper, mint and cumin as manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers respond to demand for herbs and spices to be used in marinades, rubs, coatings, seasonings, condiments, sauces and other barbecue products. Mint is sellingparticularly well, up 40% compared to the same period last year.
Tasneem Backhouse, Sales Director at EHL Ingredients, comments: “Following the wet weather during Spring, the nation is ready for some sunshine and to enjoy the great outdoors. Last year over 3 million barbecues were held during BBQ Week alone so we’re hopeful the weather will improve so Britain can beat that this year.
“National BBQ Week suggests that hot and spicy foods are set to be popular on the BBQ this year, from countries such as South America, North Africa, the Caribbean and US styles such as Cajun and Creole. Our food ingredients are aimed at wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers and we can work with them to tap into the potential sales increases that these cuisines can offer. We can provide conventional and organic varieties and develop bespoke blends, depending on requirements.
“With organic and free-from foods proving popular choices in the market place too, we can also supply ingredients to meet allergen and organic standards.”
Nutmeg, chilli, pepper, mint and cumin are available in various packaging formats and quantities from 1-25kgs and in poly pots of 250 and 500g. The ingredients are all available in organic and conventional formats.
They are available to food and drink manufacturers, wholesalers, ingredient retailers as well as co-packers and bottlers via a network of wholesaler and cash and carries across the UK.
