In response to what the company believes is rising demand for flavours in savoury, dairy and beverage applications, Givaudan has opened a new spray dry facility in Indonesia to enhance its capabilities across the ASEAN market.

Representing an investment of CHF 24 million, the new facility at Givaudan’s Cimanggis site will bring production closer to customers, and, according to te company, place it among the most technologically advanced Givaudan sites in the region. Production will begin transferring to the new site immediately.

“Givaudan has a long history in Asia and we are dedicated to making significant investments to further expand our production, creation and application facilities here,” said Givaudan CEO Gilles Andrier. “We aim to be the best partner for customers, providing them with innovative flavour solutions that best meet local consumer taste preferences.”

Rising customer demand for flavours in dry applications is leading to increased demand for spray dried Flavours across Asia, said Givaudan. The investment in Cimanggis delivers both conventional and ultraseal spray dry capabilities which Givaudan said will help it faster meet customer requirements for savoury, dairy and beverage applications.

“Our enhanced production capabilities in Indonesia, coupled with our consumer understanding, will allow us to strengthen the development of flavours that meet Asian consumer preferences, especially in the area of noodles, soups and beverages which represent an important part of nutrition in the region,” said Givaudan’s regional commercial head of APAC, Monila Kothari. “By expanding local capabilities and developing our employees through training and skills enhancement we are bringing Givaudan’s global expertise in innovative and creative spray dried flavours to Indonesia. We see this as a key element in our plan to drive benefit for our customers through closer collaboration.”

The company said that its sales in developing markets are on target to increase from 40% in 2010 to 50% by 2015. Indonesia is the 16th largest economy in the world with 45 million active consumers. This is expected to grow to the 7th largest economy with 135 million consumers by 2030.
