A company manager says the unique business model of a proposed Scottsbluff beef processing plant includes its eventual focus on the South Korean market.

Keith DeHaan of Future Food Energy LLC told members of the Scottsbluff-Gering Rotary Club on Tuesday that the plant investors are in South Korea. He says they're looking for a higher quality of beef than what is generally sold in the United States.

The company is proposing to build its plant on 43 acres it's offered to buy from the city of Scottsbluff. DeHaan says the investors want to construct their own beef processing plant so they maintain control over the product and the plant culture.

Company plans include an initial workforce of about 350 people that could grow to 600 people at peak production.
