The family of Robert Danell, a 62-year-old man who died of kidney failure after becoming ill from E. coli, settled a lawsuit against several beef companies and retailers, according to media reports.
Danell, who had Down syndrome, was one of more than 20 people sickened in a 2009 outbreak of E. coli. He died in June 2010. His family sued Beef Products Inc., maker of lean finely textured beef, and seven additional plaintiffs. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
