The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in May was $7.51 per bu, down 20c from $7.71 in April but up 84c from $6.67 in May 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices report.
The average price paid for winter wheat in May was $7.37 per bu, down 15c from $7.52 in April but up 95c from $6.42 in May 2012. The average price paid for durum was $7.92 per bu, down 9c from $8.01 in April and down $1.03 from $8.95 in May 2012. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $7.90 per bu, unchanged from April but down 3c from May 2012.
The average price paid for all rice was $15.70 a cwt, up 50c from $15.20 in April and up $1.60 from $14.10 in May 2012.
The May index of prices received by farmers for food grains was 244 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, down 1% from 247 in April but up 11% from 219 in May 2012.
The May index of feed grains was 295, down 2% from 300 in April but up 8% from 274 in May 2012. The average price paid to farmers for corn was $6.88 per bu, down 9c from $6.97 in April but up 54c from $6.34 in May 2012. Farmers received an average of $11.20 a cwt for grain sorghum in May, down 40c from $11.60 in April but up 80c from $10.40 in May 2012. The average price paid for oats in May was $4.10 a bu, down 32c from $4.42 in April and down 2c from May 2012.
The index of May prices received for oilseeds was 255, up 2% from 250 in both April 2013 and May 2012. Farmers received an average of $14.80 a bu for soybeans in May, up 40c from $14.40 in April and up 80c from $14 in May 2012.
The May index for dairy products was 152, up 2% from 149 in April and up 23% from 124 in May 2012. The average price paid for all milk in May was $19.80 a cwt, up 30c from $19.50 in April and up $3.60 from $16.20 in May 2012.
The May poultry and egg index was 201, up 8% from 187 in April and up 25% from 161 in May 2012. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs in May was $1.17 a dozen, up 29c from 88c in April and up 34c from 83c in May 2012.
