Singapore-based donut chain Mad Over Donuts plans to open 50 outlets in India to strengthen its retail network in the country.
Currently, it has 46 outlets in India. In addition, the retailer is also keen to expand its brand to overseas markets such as Sri Lanka, West Asia and Vietnam by the latter half of fiscal 2013.
Mad Over Donuts CEO Tarak Bhattacharya told The Hindu Business Line that the company has concluded a feasibility study and outlaid expansion plans to leverage the current market conditions in India and surrounding markets.
The launch of about 50 stores will include 10 café-model outlets averaging about 800ft2. Remaining stores under the plan are expected to be under different formats such as kiosks and cafés.
The chain is currently focusing on shorter stores to drive higher revenues, revealed Bhattacharya.
Average store size of Mad Over Donuts ranges between 300ft2 and 350ft2.
Meanwhile, the retailer has declined any plans of establishing commissary, stating that it follows hub-and-spoke model, in which a
large outlet caters to other smaller ones.
Following the launch of its new stores, the company is planning to increase its donut production by two-fold. Currently, it produces 25,000 donuts per day.
