Marty Manion, who has served as executive director of Association Independent Management and as director of information technology and board services for the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, is the new executive director of the 1,400-member AAMP, which mostly represents small-scale meat and food processors.
Manion has earned the Certified Association Executive designation.
His responsibilities will include staff, budget, convention, member services, technology implementation, communications, strategic planning and overall operations.
Manion succeeds Dr. Jay Wenther, who resigned in January after nearly a decade to become the director of meat technology for Handtmann, Inc.
Meanwhile, Christopher Young has also joined AAMP as outreach specialist, responsible for food safety and inspection matters.
Young will represent the association before federal, state and local authorities and will handle legislative and regulatory issues on worker safety, quality control, and environmental and business management.
Young has spent 20 years in the meat industry, with experience in quality control, operations, management and ham production.
